Humidity Helper Calculator
Compare your room’s humidity to what your plant wants and fix the gap.
Closing the humidity gap
Crispy brown leaf edges, especially in winter, are usually a humidity problem, not a watering one. Most homes sit around 30-50% relative humidity, while many tropical houseplants would prefer 50-70%. This tool measures the gap and tells you the simplest fix that will actually close it.
What helps, ranked
- Small gap: group plants together so they share transpired moisture.
- Medium gap: add a pebble tray, or move the plant to a kitchen/bathroom.
- Large gap: run a humidifier, the only reliable way to lift a whole room.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I measure my room’s humidity?
A cheap digital hygrometer (the same kind sold for terrariums and humidors) reads relative humidity in seconds. Place it near your plants, not next to a radiator or window, for a fair reading.
Does misting raise humidity?
Only for a few minutes. Misting briefly wets the leaves but does little for sustained humidity, and on some plants it can encourage fungal spots. Grouping plants, a pebble tray, or a humidifier work far better for a lasting effect.
