I am ready to try beneficial nematodes for fungus gnats, but I am confused about where to buy them. Some listings look like they might sit in a warehouse forever. Some say live arrival. Some ship slowly. I am in the southern US, so heat is also a concern. Where do you buy them, and how do you make sure they are still useful when they arrive?

Look for `Steinernema feltiae` for fungus gnats. I order from garden supply or insectary-style shops that talk about live shipping, not random listings with no storage info.

Check the shipping weather. I avoid ordering during a heat wave or a freeze. If they cook in transit, you will not know until nothing improves.

Use them soon after arrival. If you must wait, follow the package storage directions, usually short-term refrigeration. Do not toss them in a garage and remember them next month.

Plan your watering day before they arrive. I made the mistake of getting them, then realizing half my plants were still too wet to water. The timing was deeply annoying.

For a lot of plants, also compare liquid BTI products. Nematodes work, but BTI is easier for me to repeat through the whole collection.

Local hydroponic stores sometimes carry them or can order them. I like that because you can ask when they came in and avoid a mystery shipping delay.

Whatever you buy, follow the instructions. More is not always better, and mixing live controls with random pesticides can ruin the thing you just paid for.
