There is a local plant swap next weekend and I want to go, but I have never been to one. I have rooted pothos cuttings, baby spider plants, and a small jade cutting. Nothing rare. Is it okay to bring common plants? Do people expect exact value trades? Should I label everything? I do not want to show up with my little pothos cups and accidentally break plant swap law.

Common plants are absolutely okay. A lot of people at swaps are beginners or just like easy plants. Label what you know and be honest about anything you are unsure of.

Bring plants clean, pest-free, and in containers you do not need back. That is the biggest etiquette point.

Do not apologize for common cuttings. Someone always wants pothos. It roots fast, grows well, and makes people happy.

Check your cuttings closely before you go. No pests, no suspicious soil, no sticky leaves. Swaps depend on trust.

If you want a specific trade, say so kindly. If you are open to anything, say that too. Clear expectations make swaps much less awkward.

Bring a box or tray. I once carried plants loose in a tote bag and arrived with soil everywhere and one spider baby upside down. Learn from my chaos.
